We at Au3 Goldsmiths mainly use 18K gold and 950 platinum, but also other materials such as 925 silver and titanium. The gold we use is always at least 99,9% recycled. All metals are nickel free.
We use diamonds, sapphires and other durable and high quality gems we acquire from reliable and long-term material suppliers and partners. We only use diamonds from legal sources and producers who are committed to the Kimberley International Agreement. We provide a certificate of authenticity for the materials and for the jewelry designed and manufactured by us at Au3 Goldsmiths. We do maintenance for our jewelry to guarantee their long life. We recommend annual maintenance for the rings.
Precious metals and gemstones are valuable, and we appreciate the sustainable use of all materials. We use recycled materials whenever possible. All leftover material generated during the work is reused.
GOLD
The gold we use in our jewelry is 18K white gold, yellow gold, and rose gold. It contains
a mixture of 75% gold and 25% alloy metals. The white gold alloy gets its white color from palladium, which is a precious metal as well. As our white gold alloy has a beautiful color, we don't want to cover it with rhodium plating in our white gold jewelry. The rhodium plating also wears off and needs to be replaced frequently, and we want our jewelry to be carefree.
Gold is a good material for everyday use because of its durability. Gold can also be resized and modified easily. With three beautiful shades to choose from, a classic yellow gold, a modern white gold, or a playful rose gold, you're sure to find the perfect fit for your style. We use yellow gold that is a little more red than usual in Europe.
A soft toothbrush and dish soap can be used to clean gold jewelry at home. We recommend annual maintenance for gold jewelry. The gold we use is always at least 99,9% recycled, and we strive for 100% every day.
PLATINUM
The platinum we use is 950 platinum which means the alloy has 95% platinum and 5% other alloy metals. Platinum is a pure white precious metal and a bit heavier than gold.
Platinum is a luxurious white material, and we recommend it if you are looking for a metal that is as white as possible for wedding or engagement rings. Platinum keeps its beautiful white color in everyday use. Platinum jewelry can be cleaned at home by soft brush and liquid dish soap. We recommend annual maintenance for platinum jewelry.
Almost all our collection jewelry can be made from 950 platinum.
SILVER
Even though we focus more on jewelry made of gold and platinum, we also design and manufacture jewelry pieces in 925 sterling silver, which is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The silver jewelry pieces are stamped with “925”.
Silver is the whitest existing metal. Its unique color has made it one of the most popular materials in jewelry. It is a good material for earrings and necklaces due to its beautiful color. Silver is also a good choice for special occasions because it is possible to make larger and more spectacular pieces.
Silver is a soft metal, and in everyday use silver jewelry can easily get scratched or bent. Therefore, silver jewelry requires more gentle use than gold or platinum jewelry. We don’t recommend silver for wedding or engagement rings because it is a softer material that shows wear easily. Silver tarnishes over time as it reacts to oxygen. Tarnished silver looks dark gray or brownish. It is possible to remove the tarnish with silver cleaning liquid. Regular maintenance is the key to keeping your silver jewelry bright and fabulous!
TITANIUM
Titanium is a lightweight and durable material. Titanium is a comfortable material to use because it always feels warm against skin. It is also a light material to wear.
We don’t resize titanium rings.
Titanium is only available in the Lilja collection by goldsmith Anu Kaartinen.
DIAMONDS
In our jewelry we use natural white diamonds and colorful diamonds. Colorful diamonds are natural color diamonds and heat-treated color diamonds. Heat treatment enhances the natural color of the diamonds. We use high-quality white diamonds, the quality being tw/vs (g/vs) or w/vs (h/vs).
Diamonds are the hardest and most valued gemstones. Their ability to reflect light is brighter than other gemstones which gives them a unique sparkle. Their properties make them desirable stones for wedding and engagement rings.
We only use diamonds from legal sources and producers who are committed to the Kimberley International Agreement. The agreement prevents conflict diamonds from entering the rough diamond market. Our diamond supplier is a member of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC). RJC assesses business practices in the jewelry industry against ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards.
SAPPHIRES
Sapphires are precious gemstones and made from a specific mineral variety called corundum. Sapphires are the second hardest gemstone. Therefore, they are often used in jewelry intended for everyday use, such as wedding rings. Sapphires are available in various vibrant colors. The gorgeous colors of sapphires have inspired our designs.
If you are looking for colors for your jewelry, sapphires are a good option for you. The sapphires we use have delicious colors from light pastels to vibrant darker tones.
We purchase sapphires only from reliable long-term suppliers. The sapphires we use come from Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
